A ring configuration timeout has occurred because a BPE has been unresponsive for a sufficiently long time. The cause may or may not be harmful to the active data path. Depending on the situation, recovery may be possible. Since each situation must be evaluated by the user, rather than attempting to recover the ring, EXOS places the ring into Severed state. The severance occurs at the Ring Common Link so that the data plane will not be (further) disrupted. The ring is then prevented from processing Ring Detect events. In order for future Ring Detect events to cause ring formation, the user must disable or enable any port that is part of the ring connection and is not an active Upstream port. It is recommended that the user disable or enable a port whose link is in Severed state. The user can determine such a port by using the "show vpex topology detail" command and choosing the port designated as a Cascade port on a slot which is marked with the "S" flag. This recommended choice of port should not cause traffic disruption.
Inform the administrator and enable ring discovery by disabling or enabling a ring port as described above.
